Hands Across the Border

A few of the girls in Avery's Daisy Girl Scout Troop went the the Hands Across the Border event.

The event celebrates the peaceful border we share with Canada. Girl and Boy Scout troops from both the U.S. and Canada met at Peace Arch Park in Blaine to celebrate. The day started with the girls trading "SWAPS". Crafty little homemade trinkets. Avery thought this was cool!!! She told me, "I wasn't so sure at first, but once I started trading it was AWESOME!"

Then it ended with a parade through the Peace Arch. U.S. Scouts on one side, Canadians on the other....marching through the Arch together. There were about 12,000 people there in all.
WOW!!! Good times! :)

Quite the Reader!!

Our school did a reading challenge for the month of May.
Students were supposed to read a book, then come to school and take a comprehension test on the computer (a program called Reading Counts). The program tracks how many books/words you've read in a given period of time. Well....for the month of May, Avery was the top reader in her Kindergarten class!!! At the end of the year awards assembly she was recognized for this accomplishment and got her GOLD medal. (Her second for the year I must brag! :) )

She was also recognized for being one of the P.E. Students of the Month. Our P.E. teacher chooses 2 students out of the entire school each month to receive this award!!! Yaaaaayyyyyyy Avery!!!! :)

Can you tell we're just a little proud???? :)
